LESVOS PRIVATE TOURS

The Ouzo Trail
to Plomari

The road south, where the island's most famous spirit is made.

A quiet harbor on the Bay of Kalloni, the mountain village of Agiassos — the most authentic on the island, where coffee is still brewed in hot sand — the oldest ouzo distillery in Greece, and a long afternoon by the sea in Plomari, the ouzo capital of the country.
Private tour — exclusive vehicle hire. Price covers the entire group, not per person.
Water and juice are provided for all travellers.

Skala Kalonis fishing harbor on the Bay of Kalloni, Lesvos
Stop 1

Skala Kalonis (optional)

A small fishing harbor on the Bay of Kalloni, famous across Greece for its sardines — a PDO-protected catch found nowhere else. The salt pans nearby draw flamingos in spring and autumn. A short stop for a walk along the water and a few pictures before the road climbs into the mountains.

Agiassos mountain village cobbled lanes and plane-shaded square, Lesvos
Stop 2

Agiassos Village

The most beautiful mountain village on Lesbos, set on the slopes of Mount Olympus, 500 metres above the sea. Cobbled lanes, plane-shaded squares, and stone houses that have refused to change — Agiassos has held onto its character more than anywhere else on the island. The kafeneia here still serve coffee brewed the old way, in hovoli — a tradition kept alive. Above the village stands the church of Panagia Agia Sion, home to a sacred icon attributed to Saint Luke and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in the eastern Aegean.

Barbayannis Ouzo Museum copper stills and distillery, Plomari, Lesvos
Stop 3

Barbayannis Ouzo Museum

The oldest ouzo distillery in Greece, founded in 1860 in Plomari and still run by the same family. Copper stills, century-old recipes, and the seeds, herbs, and anise that go into one of the country's most recognised spirits. The museum tells the full story of ouzo on Lesvos — and the visit ends with a tasting of what's distilled here.

Agios Isidoros blue-flag beach east of Plomari, southern Lesvos
Stop 4

Agios Isidoros beach (optional)

A long blue-flag beach east of Plomari, backed by pine-covered hills and lapped by some of the calmest water on the south coast. An optional stop for a swim before we move into the village.

Plomari village stone houses and harbor at sunset, ouzo capital of Greece
Stop 5

Plomari Village

The ouzo capital of Greece — a seaside town of stone houses, neoclassical mansions, and narrow lanes that climb up from the harbor. The local tavernas along the water serve some of the best food on Lesvos, and the unmistakable scent of anise drifts through the streets. The right place to close the day with a glass of what the town has been making for over a hundred and fifty years.
